Meet The Team – Toby Meehan
We caught up with IT support technician, Toby Meehan to find out more about what life is like working at Radius Tech Solutions. Toby discussed the evolution of the IT industry, common problems he sees clients facing and his newfound hobby of learning to speak Korean.
Why did you choose a career in IT?
I have spent a lot of time working on computers first as a hobby. I then started to receive requests from friends and family to set up printers, install Wi-Fi and other technological jobs, over time I gained more experience and decided this is something I would like to do as a career. I enjoy the problem-solving aspect of my job, and get great satisfaction in finding the best outcome for clients and the team.
What does your day-to-day role involve?
My primary role is the first line of support for the team and clients. I work on issues such as computer crashes, loss of data and general maintenance problems. I work across all four offices providing support.
What’s the most common issue you see clients facing?
Computers running slow is very common, especially when running lots of different programmes and working with external data. To combat this issue, I run through the computer diagnostics, which is a little bit like an MOT for a computer, checking everything is in order and working as it should be. Typically, this leads to updates being needed or extra storage to be added through a hard drive.
Do you have any specialisms that can benefit clients?
It works in my favour being a young person in this industry, I have grown up using the latest software and programmes, so I am able to signpost clients to the best systems and I am familiar with how they work. I am also a fast learner and so I can pick up lots of information from a client in a short space of time, which I can then use to fix an issue in the most effective way.
Why did you choose to work for Radius?
There are a lot of IT firms that provide the same sort of service, but I think Radius is a bit of a maverick in this field. The fact that we can provide completely flexible and bespoke solutions is something that excites me. It gives me the confidence to be able to say to a client we can help no matter what the problem is. The team are also great, I have developed strong relationships with them and feel confident in their abilities so I know that a job will be completed to the highest standard.
What do you do in your spare time?
I play video games and I am getting into playing Badminton at a decent level. I am also learning Korean for no reason other than to learn a new language! I can string a couple of words together and could probably ask for someone to restart a computer.
Sum up Radius Tech Solutions in one word.
